*squeals***
Saturday morning, I went to get fitted for my Daffodil dress- omigosh- I saw the style of our dress- it's so beautiful!!!! Impossible for me to describe, but I promise a picture of me in it in January.
I was stunned to hear that the dress's value was approximately $400 to $500- shipped from California. I also will be getting a day outfit (skirt, blouse, jacket), cape to keep me warm when I wear the the dress, of course, the dress itself, heels, pants, shirts- all for free. *grinnnn****
You see the above picture? That was from just this Saturday- I went to the Santa Parade in Sumner and Puyallup- we rode the daffodil-adorned Pierce Transit city bus (only new Daffodil Princesses- not the one from last year- they rode the float you see in the background of the picture. It was fun waving to the crowd in the 'parade-manner'.. You wave your hand more of ..... Eh... princess...like? lol!! I'll have to show it to you in person.. Heh heh
Anyways- it was funny watching the crowd's reaction to our 'proper' wave.. *grins and giggles* But overall- I had a blast.
Bonney, the girl in red coat in the picture- absorbed so much sign language while we was waiting for the parade to start, and in between the parades of Sumner and Puyallup.. She was so enthralled and ... just.. I had no interpreter that day, but I realized and felt like I caught on more of what was going on instead of having an interpreter let me know what's going on- because my eyes are scanning everything everywhere... I think my lip-reading skills improved a little- and will definitely improve as this year go by. Bonney and I talked whenever we could and when we weren't busy 'waving' in the parade- we talked through gestures and mouthing the words- I grilled and drilled signs in her head and the poor girl was overwhelmed, but she loved it
*claps hands with glee***** I remember when I went to Clover Park HS to help out Caseylie with her presentation of the Educator of the Year award, everything went smoothly.. I signed two poems (4 boys- all my escorts *tee hee*- voiced the poem) to the honored teacher without any problem, because I had the paper on the podium and was watching the boys' lips so I could keep up. Connie, the vice president for Royalty, was there- and was very impressed of how I handled this without an interpreter (and since that I was the only princess to show up
).. SCORE ONE FOR DEAFIES!
My confidence of handling things without an interpreter has soared because of Clover Park HS and the parade..
Normally, I would be scared to death, and often refuse to show up to any events that aren't interpreted- because I hated not knowing what was going on. But.. now I feel like I caught on more around me WITHOUT an interpreter- cuz my eyes are set on the interpreter only.. It also interferes with me trying to develop an relationship or friendship with a person. I also had to force myself to go, for I was determined to win Queen for Mount Tahoma, since my school has not won Daffodil Queen since 1970. To tell the truth, I do not want to win Queen because of the immense responsiblity that comes with me. I'm spilt in half. Help! lol All I know, is that I'm gonna work my butt off, because this all is for the deaf culture, and to prove them that we can do it.
Eh... I sounded too self-absorbed. I gotta warn you- you have to be used to seeing and hearing a lot of stuff about Daffodil from me, because I want to record this to be preserved forever. You know that I have a sucky memory (I just browsed through my Mindsay diary and was surprised of how much I forgot of last year). If you wanna more info- just go to www.daffodilfestival.net and click on the news link to see more pictures. (I HATE the picture of me during my princess selection LOL)
Bringing you off topic now.
Travis is so cute. He's all lovey-dovey now with a girl named Jenny. Congratulations
You owe me one.
Congratulations to Whitney as well, for doing well in the ARBA (american rabbit breeding association- omg, I remember the acrynonms!! hehe) competitions. She's soaring in 4-H now. Yay!
2004 is definitely the year for the deaf, for I've heard of a lot of achievements in our community lately. *cheers* Deaf Power!
